Sakuru 331 Teapot
The Making of Sakuru teapot

This collection comes from a desire to reinvent the humble teapot. By blending the simple shapes found in brutalist architecture in London, and the beautiful form of iron cast Japanese kettles, the result is the Sakuru Teapot. 'Sakuru' is Japanese for circle, referencing the most unique aspect of the form and functionality. The design replaces the traditional aspects of a spout and handle, in place of a single hollow circle.

All  pots are hand thrown by me in Leyton. Each will have a numerical reference, such as 331. These indicate the raw clay weight of the three foundational elements; the body (3lbs), the circle (3lbs) and the lid (1lbs). The letters that follow in each individual product refer to the type of clay, and the glazed used.
